Even though the earth revolves around the sun, the signs and their houses go along as if the sun rises and falls among the earth, putting the signs in order. But, with all of these aspects, meanings, and myths of the stars, you must start with where they are located. The Milky Way, an enormous nebula, covers more than one-tenth of the sky, and earth contains 90 percent of the known stars, which is home to the zodiacs. The Greeks thought the Milky Way was created by the unskilled and foolish Phaethon, the son of Helius (the sun god), when he borrowed his fathers chariot, leaving a scorched path. The living creatures, especially the claws of Scorpio, scared Phaethon in his travels, causing him to burn the stars with his fear of the creatures, hence creating the Milky Way. It is said that this burning of the stars by Phaethon also seared the Earth, which created the deserts of Africa, and blackened the skin of those people too near his flaming route (the equator). Although, another myth about the creation of the Milky Way suggests that it is the suns abandoned path when he changed his course in previous times. These myths provide a background on the zodiacs among Earths far horizon, and an understanding of their roots.
All of this research I have learned from my second source "Mythology of the Zodiac" by Marianne McDonald. This book gave not only information on the Milky Way and the origins of the zodiacs, but went into detail on each of the twelve signs. I gained a great amount of knowledge on my own sign, Cancer, along with my almost polar opposite Sagittarius boyfriend, and my other loved ones. This book is a perfect source for research towards my paper, and since there is so much information held inside it, I learn more and more every time I re-read it.
Anyone who knows me knows I am OBSESSED with zodiacs, astrology, and constellations. It's crazy how we developed a way of predicting people's personalities, likes and dislikes, and daily life experiences through the stars. That right there shows there is a lot more out there than we know. I'm actually very intrigued to read your paper. It seems like it will be chunk full of information which is always great, but make sure it doesn't overload because that can sometimes steer the reader away from reading the whole paper. Are you going to include how the information you learned on Cancers and Sagittarius' are relatable? Like if you think it's true that cancer's are very emotional signs, or Sagittarius' are very whimsical and freedom lovers. I think it would also be interesting to include how different the same sign can be with different sex's (Cancer women and Cancer men, for example). Overall, I think your paper will be excellent.
ReplyDeleteAs Marisa said, I also find the zodiac very fascinating, its so interesting to see how peoples zodiac signs really reflect them as a person. I love how you used examples of certain signs and how they differ in men and woman. You also used your personal experiences and I really felt like I could connect with your writing. It would be interesting to see if you included how different are alike and different.
ReplyDeleteYour research paper topic is so interesting. Astrology is an absolute fascinating topic and I am excited to see how far into the topic you will explore in order to write your research paper. Did you know a lot about the zodiac signs before you began your research or is all of this information new to you? There seem to be so many different myths regarding the milky way and the zodiac signs themselves, how do you distinguish between myth and reality? Great blog post! It seems like you will have a lot of fun writing this paper.
