Second book for my project
For my second source, I used the book An Anthology of Russian Folktales by Jack V. Haney. This book differs from my previous because my first book was a book of actually Fairy tales themselves. This book talks more about the background of the start of Folklore. It talks a lot about how Stalin and WW2 were a huge impact on the writing of Russian Folklore, due to the massive amount of killing and exile that occurred. It also talks about how many Russians feel that folklore was first started in rituals, dances, customs, spells, incantations, and music. As of now, Folklore is only shared in very few remote places like the Far North, and a small region called Lake Baikal. In this book, it also has a collection of fairy tales but I enjoy this book because it has a huge background on the culture of the Russian people.

I think it is really interesting and will benefit your research that you used two different types of books. The mix of the history of the tales, and the tales themselves, will make for a strong analysis of the topic as a whole. I didn't know until now that World War 2 had such a strong influence on Russian folklore, but it certainly makes sense now that I think about it. It is intriguing that folklore has dissipated so much. Why do you think we as people have let go of this ancient pastime so easily?
