Russian Folklore in Fairy tales #4

Throughout my research on my topic it has become really easy for me to decide the direction I want to go with my research paper. I am going to express how things that may seem so far in the past for us, like WW2, the soviet union, and rulers such as Stalin, had an impact on such a specific topic. Throughout our time in Humanities we studied a lot about rituals, customs, dance, and music and how those things created greater things. In my paper, I will be connecting these things to my topic as well. When people think of Russian fairytales, they probably don't know much about them, in my paper, I am going to describe the many different types of tales, and how the writing of them is done.

When reading my fairytales, it was very interesting to see the similarities to fairytales that we know now, I never realized how much this topic was going to connect with what we are learning in class, and also things that I already know about. When I first decided to write my paper on this topic, I wasn't sure where I was going to go with it, or what I was gonna write about but I think I totally have a greater understanding now. When picking this topic, I wasn't exactly sure why I picked it, it might have been a last minute decision but I also wanted to write about because I knew I could use my knowledge from my AP European History class (that I am currently taking now) and connect to the culture and background of my paper.

  1. I really like your topic, and I also like the theme you are taking it. I like how you are going to take it a step back in the past and talk about things that most of us have not heard about in a while. Im glad you found a way to connect your other classes into your research paper, I'm glad the class is helpful for you. Is there any other topic that you wish you did instead of this one?

  2. I think it's so cool that you're writing about Russian fairy tales for your research topic. I have never really heard any Russian folklore before, but it makes me wonder if any fairytales like Cinderella or Beauty and the Beast are influenced by Russian fairytales. Did you see any similarities between modern tales and ones from Russia? You also mentioned that you're going to talk about how the writing of these tales are done- is there a specific format to them or style? This seems like a really interesting topic and I would love to read your paper when you're done!

  3. I'm glad you found out where you were going with your paper. It probably wasn't easy to pick a topic you didn't know much about, then delve deep into it. Are a lot of our fairy tales similar to Russian ones? If so, do you think our tales derived from theirs or do you think both our fairy tales and there's derived from a common ancestor culture of sorts? I wonder how Russian fairy tales have affected their culture today.
