For my ideal work of art, I chose the song The Actual by Reading Zero. I chose this because it is a song from my dad's band Reading Zero. My dad played the drums and my uncle played the guitar in the band. I chose this particular song because my dad wrote it. Before I was born, Reading Zero had a record deal and went on tours and played shows. They were offered a big time record deal, but by that time I had been born so my dad didn't want to continue touring and some of the other members of the band wanted to stop as well.
This work of art is meaningful to me because I get to listen to something my dad created and listen to him play the drums, which was something he loved to do. Although this genre of music is not one I am particularly fond of, I still love listening to it because it is something my dad put a lot of hard work into and it makes me extremely proud of him every time I listen to it. My dad has sacrificed so much to make sure my brothers and I have everything we need. He is my role model and the most important person in my life. He has made me the person I am today and he is my biggest supporter, and this is why this work of art is so meaningful to me.
I loved reading this post, Jocelyn! It is so cool that your dad was in a band, and wrote this song himself. I love that you have a deep connection to it, and that it holds more significance to you because your dad wrote it. That really shows me how art can be subjective, and mean different things to different people. Did he write any other songs?
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool Jocelyn! After hearing the back story, you can really hear the passion in his drumming, and he's a great drummer by the way. I think your story of the band also connects to our love unit in that there's a type of love that our parents have for us as their kids, and they will never love anything more in their life. Back to the song though, I think whether it is a type of music that you like or not, the passion that the artist put into their work is what really bring a song, poem, or painting to life. Did the lyrics hold any importance to your dad? Great post!
ReplyDeleteI think it's awesome that you show how proud and inspired you are by your dad. This post was one that stuck out to me because it shows how art consumed your life right when you were first born in a way. Does your dad still write songs or play just for fun? I always knew you had a thing for music because of your voice and how well you sing, maybe you got that from your dad! The passion your dad put into his performing art is very obvious and I think that is amazing. Great blog post!
