As technology's influence spreads even further its begun to affect our connection with nature. I believe its not a well kept secret that were further away from nature now then we were 100 years ago even. Humanity has always lived within nature and was taught how to live alongside it. But with the sudden surge of technology we have brushed nature off and are beginning to separate. Our generation has found themselves with such a dependency for all the electronics that we have developed an addiction for it. Whether its a work or at home technology not only makes our life easier but faster too. In the modern day there is seemingly no reason to go outside, any information that's out there can be found faster at our computer. Everything is at the touch of our fingers and we have chosen technology over nature.
Kids of all ages used to rush home from school and fly through there homework just to be able to play outside before it was too dark and they would inevitably have to come back in. Kids punishments have evolved from being forced to stay in your room to being "forced" into going outside. Now don't get me wrong I use technology as much as the next guy, maybe even more but I still enjoy going outside. Not to the extent my grandparents or even my parents did but I see the value in exploring nature and distancing from technology even for only a short time. Technology is an extremely vital part of modern day society that doesn't come without a cost. I see the value of nature but in all honesty I think its a fair price to pay.
Great post Joey! I agree with you that over the years the value of nature has diminished. It really is a shame because there are many benefits to spending time outside, especially psychological and developmental for young children. How do you think that we can alter our dependency on electronics so we can focus on our connection with the natural world? No matter what we propose, it would not be an easy task due to the fact that technology continues to improve every single day!
ReplyDeleteJoey, I love how you showed how times have changed between the generations. It is really sad how children today rather watch TV than go outside. I can totally relate to the addiction to technology. I recently found out that there are rehab facilities for people addicted to technology. The funny thing is, the rehab facilities are most often located out in a countryside. Why do you think it is so hard to go without technology these days?
ReplyDeleteYour title really pulled me in to want to know your view of technology with nature. I do agree with you that our generation has found such dependency with technology. Everything is at the touch of a finger, why would anyone want to go outside! I do agree with thats how people see things these days. I do too love exploring in nature. I enjoyed reading your post!
