When I go to Surry Dam with my dog, time seems to slip away. The lake is calm and makes onlookers feel just as peaceful. It's easy to forget about a pointless, abstract stressor like time.
Standing on the dam, you can see everything; the sun glistening off the subtle waves, the pine border that stretches as far as the eye can see. Often a fluffy squirrel or a chubby chipmunk comes along to enjoy the view... until a fat happy lab bolts after it, of course.
This sacred space of mine relaxes me from the rest of my life. There's no school, no work, no decisions. Simply put, there's no stress. Surry Dam provides a breath of fresh air, literally and metaphorically.
