Old Orchard, my sacred space

My sacred space is Old Orchard beach. To me, sacred space is somewhere you can feel relaxed and are able to be yourself. It is a place where you understand who you truly are and a place that makes you happier than any other place you've been to. Old orchard beach creates a sense of relaxation. The atmosphere is unlike anything I have ever experienced.

When I am on the beach, it feels like the sun is just a little bit brighter than it is anywhere else. Smelling the salty ocean and hearing the waves and gulls create a relaxed state. The sand under my towel is warm and comfortable to lay on and I can fall asleep faster than I could in my own bed. When I am at the beach, my favorite thing to do is read. Feeling the warmth of the sun and laying down with a good book makes me content.

When I am in my hotel room, I like sitting on the balcony and watching and listening to all the people walking on the sidewalk. When I am down at the pool, I love diving and splashing my brothers. At night, we go downtown where they have an amusement park and arcade. They also have a ton of tiny shops. That my mom and I like to shop in. The atmosphere of old orchard makes my mind happy and my heart full.

Everything about my sacred space includes my family. My family is a big part of my happiness. Without them, the space wouldn't be sacred

  1. I also love the beach, and find it such a calming and happy place to be. I like that you wrote about all the parts of Old Orchard Beach- the arcade, amusement park, hotel, and pool. They each seem to add to something to your sacred space, and it sounds like it wouldn't be the same without them. Do you think that one day you'll end up living by the beach? If so, you'd probably never feel sad again.

  2. I like that you talk about what you think a sacred space is and how it pertains to you. I agree that sacred spaces make you understand yourself a little bit more, and I love that you feel most yourself when you're relaxed. I also love that your family is part of your happiness in such a valuable way. I think that that's something that a lot of people can really relate to. I have sort of the same question as Sarah: how do you see your sacred space fitting into your future life?

  3. I really enjoyed your usage of imagery when describing Old Orchard. I've never been there, but it sort of reminds me of when my family and I go to Cape Cod, Provincetown. It seems like a very quaint environment that is beneficial for the mind and body. It's crazy to see so many people finding comfort in the ocean. That just shows how much of a toll nature can have on us. Do you find this kind of comfort in other places similar to Old Orchard? Like Hampton, York beach, or Cape Cod?

  4. I liked how your space was more than just the beach, but everything there, from sitting in your hotel to going downtown. I also liked how you included your family as a sort of underlying reason as to why you chose your place. Do you go to Old Orchard a lot? and will you continue to go in the future?

  5. I agree with Joey Trisko, it's interesting that your sacred space isn't just the beach itself, but everything on the beach and surrounding it; its atmosphere. I find a sacred space in the beach as well... the sound of the ocean is so soothing and almost therapeutic. I also like how you shaped your blog post on what a sacred space means to you; not just what it generally is to everyone else. Has Old Orchard always had this sort of sacred vibe to it for you, or only as you got older and were able to appreciate the beauty within it?
