My Safe Haven

There is no better place to relax than in the very room you sleep in. My sacred space is my bedroom because I often enjoy being away from everyone and everything. When I'm in my room, it sometimes can feel very therapeutic in the sense I have time to think and put effort into being my best self. Most of the times that I have gotten out of difficult situations with family and friends have been after I spent a while in my room thinking everything through. I feel most comfortable in my room than anywhere else in the world, which is to be expected because I have put a lot of time and effort throughout the years to keep it clean and personalized. With my bedroom as my sacred space, I wake up feeling very relaxed and at ease.

From the lighting, to the colors, to the shapes and layout, my bedroom is my ideal sacred space. I have learned over the past few months what my brain responds to the best in regards to my environment, and I have redesigning my room so that it makes me feel most at ease. For example, having any sort of clutter in the room is very distracting. In order to eliminate the possibility of the building up of stuff, I do not have as many items in my room. Most of my things are white, brown, and muted colors, which keep me relaxed and focused on school work when I do it at my desk. My sacred space has minimal detailing, but it suits me and what I am comfortable with.

My bedroom has a great influence on my daily life because it is always a place that I can look forward to going to at the end of a long day. There is no better feeling than walking into my bedroom and just laying on my bed, reflecting on the day. It is interesting because I have found that when I do not sleep in my room for more than a few nights, I often feel emotionally scattered and disorganized with my schedule and tasks. It could be that my sacred space is the same space that keeps me grounded and allows me to rebuild my strength both physically and emotionally. Due to the fact that my bedroom has such a positive and relaxing influence on myself, it is safe to say that my bedroom is my sacred space.. my safe haven.

  1. I love how much detail you gave into your post. It was interesting and intriuging to how much though you put in to every detail of your bedroom. I think its great that you have such a sacred space to process life. Honestly I don't know how anyone would get through life's craziness without a sacred space. Do you think when you go to college you are going to try and have your dorm room be your sacred space also? Would you use the same colors so that you unwind?

  2. I like that you kind of did what I did, you showed that a sacred space doesn't have to be geographical like the woods, ocean, or farm. The way the room is set up definitely is what makes it sacred because it is designed to fit your personal aestheticly pleasing layout. I also enjoy being in my room for a majority of the time because it's just a place of privacy where things are quiet and soothing. Do you think as you grow as a person throughout life you're going to change the way you set up your room?

  3. Megan, I love the points you made in this blog post! I defiantly relate to the last paragraph. Not sleeping in your bed for longer than one night is unsettling. Hence why everyone is so excited to sleep in their own bed after a few nights at a hotel. Also, as teenagers our room is one of the only places that we can truly be alone. I also loved how you talked about the personalization of rooms, because that further strengthens the feeling of a sacred space because our rooms directly reflect ourselves. Awesome blog post, do you think when you move into your own house one day the bedroom there will be sacred for you as well?

  4. I loved reading your post. I love how your room isn't sacred because it is your room, it is sacred because you made it that way. I thought it was interesting how everything in your room is sacred, even the lighting! I totally agree, sometimes sleeping somewhere other than my bed gets me frazzled and disorganized. I thought it was interesting how your bedroom has a great influence on your life, it is crazy how such small things like a personalized bedroom can shape who we are! What color is your room? Do you feel the location of your bedroom in your house is ideal or do you wish it were in some other room?

  5. I really enjoyed reading your post! I really liked how to talked about what made your room so sacred to you and how it was not sacred just to start with you made it that way. I loved all the details about your room and how I could picture exactly what your room looks like. I also feel the same way about having a hard time with clutter and needing to have my room feel the same way. Is there any other place in your house that you also feel would be sacred to you? This was a beautiful blog post.

  6. I would have to agree with you, my bedroom is also one of my sacred places. When writing about my own sacred place, I first wanted to talk about my room. I spend the majority of my time in my room because it makes me feel safe. Im constantly cleaning, changing everything up and moving things around. Everything I own is in my bedroom. I feel like I can connect with you after reading this post because I do too view my room in just about the same way you do too. Thank you for sharing!
