My research paper is on the coming up and use of Rap and Hip-Hop to project a message through music. Artists are able to speak about pertinent issues and draw attention to them through their music in a way that people will enjoy listening to. The early stages of Rap were to tell the stories of those who grew up in bad neighborhoods and dealt with the worst the streets had to offer. It opened the public's eye to the issues that they had to go through, where, without the use of Rap, would've either resulted in more gang violence or the problems would continue to be swept under the rug so to speak.
I choose Rap as my topic because I've listened to such a wide variety of Rap music and I respect the way its been utilized as a tool by artists such as N.W.A or Kendrick Lamar. I also want to delve into why some people choose to dismiss Rap as violent and don't take time to see that there is a message that society needs to hear and Rap is an effective way to do so,.
I like how you chose a topic that is more widespread in modern society, as well as in earlier times. Rap music to many is influential, and to others it is detrimental in terms of influence and reaction. I think a very controversial research paper could be well written on the topic that you have chosen because rap music is so worldly and many opinions have been made on the genre. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteMany people relate rap and hip hop music to violence and rage, but actually it is the complete opposite. It holds motivation and deep emotion of the individual which many people need to understand. Rap music has been a part of modern society for decades. Although there are definitely trashy artists, there are still a few like Kendrick Lamar, Chance The Rapper, and Kid Cudi to name a few that are lyrical geniuses. I'm really excited to read more about your paper!
ReplyDeleteI am actually really interested in the topic you chose for your research paper. I think people do look over what the song is actually about and just focus on the negative ideas that are shown throughout by using certain words that draw people in to them. It is true that some rappers do make songs that do not have a lot of depth to them while others have great messages to project, like you stated. I can not wait to see what you can find out about your topic!
