Research Paper: Norse Mythology

In the general view, mythology appeals to me because of its ability to make me think abstractly about the worlds creation, nature, and what it means to be human. Just the definition of mythology itself makes me want to dive into books and films to understand the beliefs of others. For the most part, Greek and Roman mythology are what I am most comfortable and knowledgable about, not to say that I am an expert by any means. WP1 and WP2 were some of the most interesting classes for me, especially when we dove into mythology.

Though there was a good amount of mythology that I was exposed to in classes, Norse mythology was hardly covered at all. Europe fascinates me; primarily due to its extensive, rich history. And I have been introduced to a lot of its history over the years. Yet, I know very little of the Norse people, commonly referred to as Vikings. In fact, most of my prior knowledge comes from popular movies which are not entirely accurate. That is what I would like to change through this research paper. I'd like to utilize my interest in Norse myths to get a better sense of who the Norse people were, what their culture was like, and where their religion came from.

  1. I think that this is such a cool topic! I have never read any Norse myths before, and It sounds like a very cool thing to research. It will also be interesting to see how movies, TV, and books depict the Norse people compared to how they actually were. I wonder what you'll uncover about these people- what they're religion was like, and how they connected themselves to the world around them.
