Shinto before and after WWII

For my research paper topic I have chosen to study the Japanese religion Shinto before and after WWII. When approaching picking a research paper topic I had no idea where to go. I looked online for a while, but nothing really caught my eye. I have always really enjoyed history, but I have never learned about the effects of war and how it changed not only America, but the opponents. Of course I have known that there were effects of the war, but now I am excited to dive into learning how WWII affected our opponents religion. I am excited to use what I know about WWII and learn about Shinto and how it changed. Before picking my research topic I have never heard of Shinto. Not knowing anything about Shinto is going to make this research paper an intriguing, but educational journey.  From what I have learned so far, Shintoism has to do with growth, nature and rituals.
I have no personal connection to this topic. I picked it because I want to learn something new and there is many aspects of this topic. You have to explore the history of WWII, effects of the war and the religions affected.I also can’t wait to share what I learn with my cousin who recently traveled to Japan. I hope I can teach her things she didn’t know as she loves Japan.

Here is a link to a video that gives a brief overview of Shintoism:

  1. Maddie, this is going to be a fascinating topic! I, too, chose a topic that requires me to explore history and I think that it is a great learning experience. Looking at how our opponent's religion was impacted by the war is going to bring up some underlying emotions about the Japanese around the time of WWII, and possibly change these emotions. There is no doubt this topic is going to be an interesting read!
